Painting Courses

Painting Holidays in France

Painting Tutor and StudentPainting Courses at L’Age Baston have been running for nearly twenty years. They are amongst the most popular and successful courses at The Château.

The reasons are simple. As an artist at L’Age Baston you live in a beautiful historic house, surrounded by an estate of 20 acres and an inexhaustible supply of things to paint and draw.

You have your own studio to work in and superb painting tutors to encourage, teach and challenge you.

It’s a good life for an artist at L’Age Baston. You may sometimes suffer from that gap between desire and performance but who doesn’t?

Anyway, painting’s not a competition. It’s  about you and how you see things and understanding more about making marks on paper. Friday night’s Vernissage pays tribute, champagne glass in hand, to the value of a week in a community of artists. People can make such progress, learn so much from their Tutors and each other and, just as important, have fun doing it.

You will eat very good food, may drink lots of wine, often talk a lot and likely do substantial amounts of work. By the end of the week when you wake up in your charming bedroom and look out over the Valley or the Courtyard you will know the days have been well spent yet wonder at how quickly they passed.

You bring your favourite paints, brushes, paper and canvas. If there is something you have forgotten, there is a small supply of materials in our studio and some good art shops nearby.

Mornings are spent with your tutor in a more formal teaching situation in and around the studio. The afternoon programme is designed to be flexible. You can carry on painting, with your tutor on hand to help and consult. Alternatively you may just want to relax by the pool, explore or go sight-seeing. Each course has excursions to paint on location and trips out to visit the local places of interest.
