Painting the Secret Garden at L’Age Baston

Painting holidays at L’Age Baston in France are a great way for artists to learn new techniques, brush up old skills or get fresh ideas for that painting project you’ve always been meaning to start. From beginners to professionals, our skilled painting tutors are happy to teach all levels and media. You’ll find them flexible, sympathetic and entertaining into the bargain.

Artists at L’Age Baston live in a beautiful historic house surrounded by an estate of 20 acres. There’s an inexhaustible supply of things to paint and draw and your own studio to work in. You enjoy brilliant food, generous hospitality and some of the best painting tutors around.

Each painting course has excursions to paint on location and trips out to visit local places of interest and there is, of course, a wealth of subject material in the Chateau and grounds themselves to keep you busy on your painting holiday.

It’s a good life for an artist at Château L’Age Baston. After breakfast you have studio time with your tutor; learning techniques, watching demonstrations and painting. After a delicious lunch you can carry on painting (tutor will be available to help if needed) or you can choose to relax by the pool or head out exploring.

We think the work/life balance is very important at L’Age Baston and that it’s yours to make! Feel free to make use of the bikes, boule, croquet, loungers and library when you wish.

Painting Holidays at L’Age Baston have been successful for over twenty years now. Come and see why for yourself.

Artist Painting Studio

Our painting studio is a happy and creative space with big oak beams, exposed stone-work and arched windows. Spacious and well-equipped, the studio has easels, tables, work-tops, music and art books for reference.

There are aprons and straw hats on a lovely hat stand, stools and drawing boards, mounts and display boards, obscure objects of interest and still life materials. In fact very nearly everything a curious student could look for in a studio, including a range of art materials should you feel tempted to try a new medium.

There is even a constant supply of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep your strength up and a bathroom decorated with ‘homages’ to Toulouse Lautrec.

Opening out onto a large stone terrace the art studio then leads into the ‘high garden’ with the shady walnut trees. Take a few steps and you find the secret garden, a few more and you could almost hop into the salt-water pool.

The studio is your domain at L’Age Baston. It’s all to hand. You will have no distractions and you will have no responsibilities – except to enjoy painting with other people who want to do the same thing.

Having slaved away creatively all week the studio workshop then becomes your gallery and the venue for our weekly ‘Vernissage’. You can bring out your red ‘sold’ stickers, put on the glad rags and enjoy a pre-dinner exhibition of your paintings with champagne and canapés to celebrate all your work.
