L’Age Baston Painting Tutor Susie Hunt
Dates: 20th July & 27th July
This is my second year teaching at L’Age Baston. It will be exciting to discover all the fresh subjects to paint with you. The Château provides an excellent and relaxing painting holiday and the chance for us to work together productively in delightful surroundings.
My priority when tutoring is to find out what individuals are hoping to gain from their time and to accommodate those wishes. I am happy to cover both the very basic techniques, when appropriate, and to respond to the needs of more experienced students.
My teaching is grounded in good craft and understanding of traditional methods. I am also keen to encourage individual style and development be it figurative, expressive or contemporary. We will sketch and paint and it could well be an opportunity for you to try a variety of different materials (which I will bring with me). I will be giving guidance in Watercolour, Acrylics, Oils, Pastels or any other media that you wish to work with.
There is a structure to the week with group demos and discussion, support and critique, but the majority of time will be for personal practice. We will be going out on local painting trips for variety and contrast. The Château buildings and grounds themselves offer such a variety of subjects we shall be making the most of our time in and around L’Age Baston.
My own paintings have been shown at the RA in London, the RWS at Bankside, The RI at the Mall Galleries, The RSA and RSW and The SSA at the Scottish Royal Academy in Edinburgh and in an ‘Awards for All’ show at Duff House, Scotland. I also have works in many private and public collections.
I started my training at Canterbury College of Art and continued at West Surrey College of Art and Design. Later on I took a Masters of Fine Art at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen. After my initial training I painted mainly for exhibition, but also worked for many years with the Adult Education Service. While living in Norway, I started my own classes in Drawing, Painting and Life Drawing and I have continued doing so wherever I have lived. I have also taken painting groups to Italy, Greece, Scotland, Norway and France. This has given me the opportunity of meeting and getting to know lots of different people and to enjoy working in a variety of lovely locations.
I am looking forward to being at Château L’Age Baston this summer and to sharing all the art and the ambience with you.
