Our Painting holidays are a great way for artists to learn new techniques, brush up old skills and get fresh ideas for that painting project you’ve always been wanted to start. You will stay in a beautiful historic house, surrounded by grounds and gardens of 20 acres. A wealth of subject material will keep you busy. The food is fantastic, the hospitality generous. Each painting course has excursions so you can paint on location and there are trips out to visit local places of interest. It’s a good life for an artist at L’Age Baston.
Description
You get to work in a great studio. It is a large, creative space with big oak beams, exposed stone work and arched windows; well-equipped with easels, tables, stools and drawing boards. There are aprons and straw hats, mounts and display boards, obscure objects of interest and still life materials plus music and art books. In fact very nearly everything a curious student could look for in a studio, including a range of art materials should you feel tempted to try a new medium. There is a constant supply of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep your strength up.
Outside the studio the terrace leads into the ‘high garden’ with the shady walnut trees. Take a few steps to the left and you find the Secret Garden, a few more and you could almost hop into the salt-water pool. The studio is your domain at L’Age Baston. It’s all to hand. You will have no distractions and you will have no responsibilities – except to enjoy painting with other people who want to do the same thing. Our painting tutors are simply the best. Happy to teach all levels and media, they are flexible, sympathetic and entertaining into the bargain.
Having slaved away creatively all week, the studio becomes your gallery and the venue for our weekly ‘Vernissage’. You can bring out your red ‘sold’ stickers, put on the glad rags and enjoy a pre-dinner exhibition of your paintings with champagne and canapés to celebrate all your work. Our Painting Holidays have been successful for over twenty years now. Come and see why for yourself.
A perfect day
After breakfast you have studio time with your tutor; learning techniques, watching demonstrations and painting. Following a delicious lunch you can carry on painting, tutor available to help if needed. You may choose to relax by the pool or head out exploring. We think the work/life balance is very important and that it’s yours to make! Feel free to make use of the bikes, boule, croquet, loungers and library when you wish. Then maybe an aperitif before a wonderful evening eating, drinking and enjoying the company of the other guests.
