Well why not try L’Age Baston where we have been running Painting courses for over 20 years. Château L’Age Baston is an historic house that dates back to the 14th century. It has over 20 acres of rural beauty and character for you to enjoy and paint at your leisure under the guidance of one of our fantastic tutors. We are running painting courses for 16 weeks this summer and have 6 wonderful tutors with just the right skills and experience to help you on the way.
John Barber is great guy and has been teaching with us for 14 years. John has been a working artist all his life. Originally trained at St Martins School of Art, he is a successful illustrator, fine artist, theatre painter and stained glass designer. John has a collection of art books to his name; most notably his ‘Colour Wheel’ series of guides and techniques. He enjoys teaching all media and works in Oils, Watercolour and Gouache. John paints landscape, portrait and still life.
Jennifer Johnson is a fabulous teacher with a big following from the South West of England. She has been a tutor with us here at L’Age Baston for 11 years. Originally a graphic designer, Jenny is an experienced illustrator and artist and wins lots of commissions for book illustrations and architectural drawings. Jenny works and teaches in most media and her drawing and watercolours of soft landscapes, portraits and still life are a joy.
Jenny Halstead is loved by students for her skill and enthusiasm and has been teaching with us for 7 years. Originally a medical artist and illustrator, Jenny’s work has featured in many health and paleontology publications. A graduate from the Royal Academy, her first love is still drawing. Jenny works and teaches in most media but notably works in pastels (her specialism), acrylic, oils and watercolour producing vibrant abstracts, portraits, landscapes and still life.
Anne Bosset is a free spirit and excellent tutor who has been teaching at L’Age Baston for 6 years. Anne graduated as a Teacher of Art at Culham College, Oxford. She has lived in France for the last 15 years where she has an art gallery – ‘Galerie de la Riviere’. Anne teaches in acrylic, mixed media, watercolour and drawing and produces, landscape, abstract and still life work in watercolour and acrylic. Anne says the light in the local area is amazing.
Lulu Hancock is a really exciting tutor and this will be her second year teaching with us. Lulu originally trained at the Camberwell School of Arts before moving to LA to work as an illustrator in the film and arts industry. Now based in France, Lulu is currently receiving a lot of attention as she documents the changing face of the local landscape. She teaches in all media and styles and specializes in painting and drawing 3 dimensional landscapes and objects.
While the tutors maybe different, all our painting courses follow a similar structure. With a more formal teaching session/workshop in the studio first thing followed by painting on location in or around L’Age Baston. After lunch guests can carry on painting with their tutor to help and guide them. Some students may opt for an afternoon off to relax by the pool, read, snooze or explore and go sightseeing.
L’Age Baston has a wonderful well equipped studio converted from an 18th century barn. It has lovely oak beams, exposed stonework and arched windows that look out to the Walnut grove. The studio opens onto a huge and truly beautiful terrace where artists can take coffee and chat as well as sit and paint.
All our painting holidays run from Saturday to Saturday and include:
- 7 night full board stay at the chateau in your own room
- 6 day Painting course
- wine with lunch and dinner
- transfers from/to the local station/airports (travel page)
- local painting excursions and visits
Of course it’s not just about the Painting Course, it’s about the whole holiday experience. With great food, very drinkable wine, great company and super hospitality we believe that L’Age Baston sets the standard for Painting Holidays.
